What is caving in Millau?
Millau is the land of the Father of caving : Edouard-Alfred Martel, our Causses are the right place to discover the wonderful underground world.
On the causses, horizontal or vertical cavities, underground rivers, have dug into the limestone and leave us a magical and mineral world to explore.
Coming from Paris in the 1880s, E-A Martel were amazed by the dizzying décor of Tarn, Jonte or Dourbie gorges. He wanted to understand the formation of these breathtaking landscapes. Curious, he dived into the abyss once laden with so many myths.
Now, we offer you to follow his footsteps.

What to expect ? Labyrinthine path, creeping passage and "Egyptian" leading to large rooms! Travel to the center of the earth and explore the caving secrets of the underground world : concretions, stalactites, stalagmites, wells, meanders, large rooms and small guts, underground lakes...
For whom, at what age can we do caving ?
The ideal outing to learn caving, and for groups with children from 7 years old, safely, and smoothly !
From 12 years, a little more sporty and technical than the horizontal caves, in this session you will learn how to handle the equipment of descent and climb on ropes, specific techniques and material : descender, blockers, handle jumar, pedal, split passage ... and explore the galleries of vast cavities!
Beginners or experienced explorers, let yourself be captivated and surprised by these mysterious places.
The contemplation of the concretions, listening to the sounds of the cave all lights off or the instructor's passionate story of the geology of the place will make you live an unforgettable moment with family or friends.
Where is it ? When ?
Near Millau; the region of the great limestone causses leaves us a multitude of options to discover the underground environment. At the booking, depending on the age of the youngest, you will choose the option of discovery or perfection caving. Then, your instructor will decide with you the adventure to live, according to your place of stay and your level.
The Avens and caves in the region can welcome us all year round and every day!
Is it hard ?
Contrary to popular belief, caving is accessible to everyone, depending on the cavity chosen.
After all, holidays are an opportunity to live together extraordinary experiences, right? Let yourself be tempted! This activity will leave you with the memory of a unique and timeless moment. With the help of your qualified instructor, overcome obstacles in a totally unexpected universe and explore the treasures of a rich and varied underground world!
How long does it last ?
Plan half a day.
Even if it’s impossible to notice time going by when you’re underground, you will come out of the cave after 2 hours and a half !!
Access and return are by small hikes not exceeding 20min depending on the cave.
What to bring ?
The underground environment accessible wearing a special suit and helmet with electric lighting (provided).
In the Aveyron cavities, the temperature is about 12°C! So even in the summer, carry :
Sweat / Long-sleaves sweater
Sports pants
Closed shoes
1 bottle of water per person
1 snack for the break (cereal bar)
Clothes to change after the activity
Despite the protective suits, we advise you to wear a sturdy outfit !
What is there to do around or for those who do not practice ?
As the places of activity are varied, your instructor will be able to inform you about what to visit around : Roquefort caves, Templar villages or the majestic Millau viaduct.

What are the obligations? Contraindications ?
Caves are natural places with its surprises and risks. Don't worry, the instructor will be there to understand them and advise you. However, it will require you to be able to walk on natural trails and rocks for half a day.
If you have had surgery or injury in the past few months, or if you have an illness or other problem that makes you doubt on your abilities, take your doctor's opinion.
